ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born in New Zealand, 1961

Lives and create in Pardes Hanna. Israel

From a young age, the sheet of paper was a private space for me, where I could organize reality in a way that reflects my changing point of view, and it remains so to this day.

The paintings are an echo of an inner reality. They are based on observing and following the presence of light and the way relationships between shape and color are created, and capture the energy of mundane objects and subject matter.

The paintings do not aim to copy reality but to create a way of expressing an emotional experience, which arises during observation.

The inspiration for the subjects of the painting can come from the immediate environment,  nature, memories, dreams,  other painters, new places and even shopping at the supermarket.

Between the walls of the studio objects of still life act as a landscape that reflects an inner yearning.

A self-portrait, which is a recurring theme in my paintings, allows examination of an exposed range of emotions.

The encounter with landscapes brings an understanding that the painting takes place in the action of stopping, observing and identifying the visual uniqueness of the place.

Observing and learning a subject is influenced among other things, by the material I work with, and experienced as an intimate, meditative and emotional process. As if searching for the nature of the thing which creates the heart of the painting.
